Chapter I: Setting Sail

 Localizing German Expertise

(2006-2010)

Within the global exhibition industry landscape, the NürnbergMesse Group has long held a position of significance. As one of the world’s leading exhibition organizers, the Group is deeply rooted in Germany’s industrial heritage and distinguished by its highly specialized trade fair expertise and extensive global resource integration capabilities. Through a network spanning Europe, Asia, and the Americas, the NürnbergMesse Group organizes more than one hundred exhibitions and conferences annually, serving industries across the global value chain and fostering international collaboration and industrial advancement.

As the tide of globalization converged with China’s economic rise, one conviction became increasingly clear: China would undoubtedly occupy a pivotal place on the future world stage.

In the early years of the 21st century, the NürnbergMesse Group made a landmark strategic decision in its global expansion journey —— the establishment of its first-ever overseas subsidiary in Shanghai, China. This was not merely a geographical expansion, but a carefully considered long-term strategic commitment.

At the time, China’s manufacturing sector was experiencing rapid growth, while industrial upgrading was beginning to gather momentum. Demand for professional international exchange platforms was rising sharply. Shanghai, as China’s frontier of opening-up, offered a unique combination of industrial strength, international vision, and institutional advantages, making it the ideal gateway connecting China with the world.

Choosing Shanghai was both a natural response to the times and a proactive strategic move — bringing “German standards” into the Chinese market while integrating “China opportunities” into the global ecosystem. It was here that the seed of the NürnbergMesse Group’s exhibition business first took root in China.

2006

In Shanghai, Into the East

Establishing a Presence in Shanghai, Embarking on an Eastern Journey

NürnbergMesse China was established. Starting from scratch, the team shouldered not only the responsibility of business expansion, but also a broader mission — to deeply integrate mature international exhibition systems with the evolving needs of China’s local industries. Standards were built through exploration, and pathways were forged through practice.

2007

First Show, New Opportunities

The First Exhibition Launched, Opening a New Window for the Industry

As its first step into the Chinese market, NürnbergMesse China chose a forward-looking sector: the organic industry. The Group introduced one of its flagship global exhibition brands to China and successfully launched BIOFACH CHINA

This was more than the launch of an exhibition, it marked the introduction of an entirely new industry concept. At a time when China’s organic industry was still in its early stages of development, BIOFACH CHINA established, for the first time, a truly professional platform integrating international standards and best practices, trade matchmaking, and certification systems, driving the industry from fragmentation toward standardization, and from initial exploration toward systematic development. In many ways, the exhibition both witnessed and contributed to the formative stage of China’s organic industry — a journey “from zero to one.”

Rooted in Industry,Driven by Expertise

Deepening Industrial Expertise, Building Professional Excellence

Apart from the consumer goods sector, NürnbergMesse China quickly expanded its focus into industrial fields. In 2008, in collaboration with the authoritative academic institution — Chinese Society of Particuology, and jointly launched the International Processing Trade Fair for Powder, Bulk Solids and Fluids (IPB).

As the China extension of POWTECH, IPB inherited the professional depth and technical rigor characteristic of German industrial exhibitions, while closely aligning with the upgrading needs of China’s manufacturing industry by focusing on the critical field of powder processing.

From fundamental material handling to advanced fine-processing applications, IPB gradually evolved into a key platform for technical exchange and industrial upgrading within China’s powder industry, bearing witness to the transformation from “Made in China” to “Intelligently Made in China.”

2006-2010

Five Years Rooted,Growing

Five Years of Rooting and Growth

Looking back at its first five years in China, NürnbergMesse China did not pursue rapid expansion in scale. Instead, it chose a steadier and more sustainable path:

1.  Introducing established international brands into the market to empower local development
2. Focusing deeply on vertical industries rather than broad diversification
3. Upholding international standards while respecting local market dynamics

These five years marked a true “0 to 1” journey — from a new market entrant to a trusted and professional industry platform in China. They also marked the beginning of connection, connecting Germany and China, technology and markets, ideas and practice.

Twenty Years On, Looking Back to Where the Journey Began

What began as a single step from Shanghai has become a vital part of the NürnbergMesse Group’s global strategy. The seeds planted in those early years have steadily grown into bridges connecting industries and linking the world

And for NürnbergMesse China, the story has only just begun.
